editing filtered images
« on: May 03, 2025, 06:49:40 AM »
I filtered for 5-stars this morning, checking both Search and Add/Modify for the catalog I wanted. But when trying to edit an image, I got the message "This file is not locally available and cannot be renamed," whether I was trying to rename it or a similar message trying to change metadata using the Metadata Template. But when I clicked on the left icon (folder with heart) and went to the file itself, I could change it in any way I want with no problem. I don't recall this happening in the past when Add/Modify was checked for the catalog. Any idea why it's doing it now?

I'm not familiar with any icon that looks like a "folder with heart" in Photo Mechanic.

Did the item in the filter results have a circle with a yellow dot on it (to the right of the filename on the thumbnail)?  If so, then the path that the Catalog knows where to find the image does not exist at that path.  You would then be seeing a proxy of that image because the real file is not currently available at that path.  You may have moved it somewhere, renamed it, or the disk that it is stored on is not currently mounted.

Kirk, I might have figured it out... about to do another post because what I think the problem is doesn't sound anything like this subject line.

Kirk, one more thing: the "folder with a heart" is the left icon at the top of the sidebar; clicking on it takes you to Favorites (the heart) and Navigator. The right icon looks like a drop-down list, and clicking there takes you to Active Catalogs, Search, Filter, Browse, and Collections. What are the proper names for those two icons?

I call it the Favorites/Navigator tab.

Got it... thanks, Kirk! Makes sense. Delighted you're on here today... if you can take a look at the disk change post from just a bit ago, you'd really make my day!
