Extract JPG from RAW - low resolution
« on: May 27, 2025, 04:19:49 AM »
How to extract the embedded JPG of a Canon R3 RAW/cRAW in full resolution?

I used to do this with Photo Mechanic 5 on my old EOS 1DX RAWs and got a perfect full-res JPGs.

The same workflow gives me a 1680x1080 px JPG instead of 6000x4000.

Also the preview is low-res and therefor not usable.

exiftool -r -b -JpgFromRaw -w jpg -ext CR3 can produce the jpg sidecar file with ease.

can someone explain, why 1DX and R3 are differently handled by PM, please

I'm not sure what build/version of Photo Mechanic you are on, but it's an old one. Support for locating the full-sized JPEG for these files was added several years ago in a release of Photo Mechanic 6. Updating your software will fix this problem.

I am on PM5 19749 which I am totally fine with. Will there be a version that supports the full-sized JPEG?

PM5 was made end-of-life many years ago.  There will not be any updates to PM5.
PM6 was made end-of-life this year and will have one more update soon, but it won't have any updates after this next release.

Photo Mechanic 2025.x is the current version.
