Preference and snapshot synchronization
« on: July 13, 2025, 10:14:16 AM »
I wanted to file a request for officially supported synchronization of preferences and metadata snapshots.

This is come up multiple times in the past of course:

I've been using the Dropbox method for years and it generally has worked fine. Except this week on assignment something got screwy and all my preferences reset to default.

It wasn't the end of the world, but it definitely threw me off for a couple minutes as I had to browse around and try to get things back how I like them.

I assume Dropbox either didn't start right or something else happened that caused PM to reset the preferences.

I'd love to see an officially supported method to handle this synchronization that has proper safeguards in place to avoid issues.

I've long been a fan of Panic and they have a native service that handles this across all their platforms: https://panic.com/sync/

I realize spinning up an entirely new service is probably beyond the reach of what Camera Bits has time for, but on Macs at least it feels like iCloud would be a great option for this data. I'm not sure if there is a Windows equivalent or not.
