Saving original file name
« on: Yesterday at 04:59:29 PM »
Is there a way to apply a template that has been edited/changed for a large number of photos, which had their original file names changed when edited and saved, and still keep the original file name in PM under the Job ID/Trans Ref:.

When I attempt to apply the template to all, the Job ID changes to the renamed file name, not the original file name. Example: an image shot as 123.NEF, then edited and saved as 456.jpg. The Job ID for 456.jpg shows 123.NEF, but if I edit something in the template and then apply it to the photo, it shows Job ID as 456.jpg.

I tried using find-and-replace on a group of highlighted images to see if I could solve the problem, but it couldn't find the string of words I wanted changed (it would work with one word).

Hope I'm explaining this so it's understandable.

If you re-apply the template with a variable in a field, (for example, it sounds like you have the {filename} variable in the Job ID field), its going to update that field with whatever that variable currently returns. There isn't currently any concept of an "original" filename in Photo Mechanic, just the current one.

You could:

1) Uncheck the Job ID box when using the Template to make further updates
2) Create a snapshot for the stuff you are applying to all the images, so that you can click the 'clear' button when you need to make changes to a smaller selection of images and only update the few fields that you need to make changes to
