Hi I'm having an issue with catalog searches in PM. This has basically been a longstanding issue, despite new OS and laptop and PM updates. I am running a local catalog, but the images are on a Synology NAS connected by ethernet.

When I do a search the screen fills quickly with boxes, but there are no names. Eventually the file info shows up and I start seeing thumbnails, but the thumbnails stop rendering at the limits of the screen - when I scroll down there are no previews. Eventually those fill in. But then the screen seems to refresh and I'm taken back to the top of the page and the thumbnails are gone again. Also, when I cursor over the thumbnails they will disappear. Same if I move off PMP and come back. It's very frustrating and really limits the utility of the catalog function.

So is there a setting I should change? I have a large cache set (10,000 mb) and memory cache is set to 40%. I am not rendering DNGs.

Thanks for any help!

Is your default sort method set to 'Capture Time'? This is going to be a lot slower than sorting by filename, especially on a NAS.

Got to the Contact Sheet section of Preferences and change your default sort method to Filename. Does loading the contact sheet improve?

Same if I move off PMP and come back.

In the same preferences window, disable "Rescan on Resume"

I'll try that, thanks. One other thing I noticed is it increments the number on the Search tab (45>46>47 etc) which feels like it's doing a new search each time.

Right, which won't happen if you have "Rescan on Resume" disabled.

Ah! Thanks - I missed that setting. Weirdly it's set off to the side by itself. Seems kinda important.

Thank you!! That was super helpful. The only remaining question is why, if the contact sheet is open, aren't thumbnails displayed for the images that haven't been scrolled to? Is that some other setting/preference? Thanks again!
