PM Not Actually Deleting Tagged Files
« on: September 17, 2025, 09:24:07 AM »
I am running 2025.6, Build 8622 (d8fe3d8) on a Windows 11 ARM Surface Pro 11.

I was culling photos this morning with the newly downloaded update.  I tagged photos, then selected them, then deleted the selected photos.  While I remain within PM, everything looks good - the deleted photos appear to be gone, and the remaining photos remain in the folder as they should be.

However, when I open File Explorer to view the files, ALL files appear, and nothing has been deleted.

When I re-open PM, ALL files remain, and the tagged files are still tagged and there - not deleted.  Although PM asks if it is OK to send these files to the Recycle Bin, they do not appear there when I open the Recycle Bin.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

What kind of drive are the files stored?

Please have Photo Mechanic generate a log file and send it to us.

You can generate a log file by going to Help -> Reveal Support Data... and choosing 'Yes' in the dialog that appears, and it will bring you to a file called 'PM_log.zip'

Send the zipped log file to support@camerabits.com so and we will continue the troubleshooting process via email.

Should I generate that file immediately after an unsuccessful deletion?

Here is the log file generated immediately after deleting the photos.

After doing the Deleting above, I checked if I could View ALL files, Tagged files, and Untagged files; all three showed as if nothing had happened.  There were 51 total images, 40 Tagged images, and 11 Untagged images.  I then closed PM and checked both the images' directory and the Recycle Bin and found that all 51 images were still there.

The log file unfortunately has very little information.

If you can reproduce this issue with any sort of regularity or predictability, it would probably be best if you could give us a call and screenshare while you demonstrate the issue. If necessary, we can enable some additional logging that may tell us more about the issue. You can reach us at 503-547-2888, from 9am to 5pm Pacific Time, or email support@camerabits.com and we can coordinate a time.

I believe I have replicated this 4-5 times.  I will try to give you a call tomorrow.

Thank you again, Andrew, for your attention and help.

I will certainly try not to place a space at the end of a renamed folder - accidentally or otherwise.

And, I look forward to hearing from you with a solution to delete the problem folder - hopefully!

Andrew,

This follows along what you were describing yesterday but perhaps adds a little more.

I particularly enjoyed the first option under "How to avoid this problem ..." - "Avoid creating them"

Did we try the fourth option: "Use quoted paths" when we were at the shell level?

BTW, my question to Google was "Is there a problem with windows 11 when you end a folder name with a space?"
