Igesting Disks
« on: June 15, 2007, 07:11:35 AM »
New to this forum and just began using Photo Mechanic last week... like it a lot. But I have a few general questions regarding the Ingest options:

1) Under "Source Directory Structure", could someone explain the three options to me?

    a) ignore-copy all photos into same destination.
    b) keep separate source folder names only.
    c) preserve all source directories.

2) What does "Auto increment folder suffix" have to do with?

If it matters, I use a Mac PowerPC G4...

a) will flatten the structure of the card and put all images in the card in the same place on your hard drive.
b) will retain the immediate parent folders of the images (things like 101CANON, 102CANON, etc.)
c) will retain the entire source structure of the card (DCIM/101CANON)

Option (a) is by far the most popular.

It causes a number which you choose as the starting number (like 001) to be appended to the generated folder names and after each Ingest, the number is automatically incremented.
