{nl} variable display inconsistancy
« on: January 25, 2026, 10:18:31 AM »
I just noticed, using Photo Mechanic Plus version 2025.10, build 8858 on macOS Sequoia 15.7.2, that the {nl} variable seems to evaluate or display inconsistently in the Image Info popup when right-clicking an image on a contact sheet to bring up the context menu for that image.

It does evaluate and produce a newline (line break) when it is in the middle of a line of text.  However when it's the only variable on a line, it does not produce a line break between lines, so you cannot separate lines by more than one space if you want to.

However, in the Info panel from the Preview Window, it does seem to evaluate and produce line breaks whether or not it is in the middle of a line of text, at the end of a line of text, or the only thing on a line of text.

What is the correct behavior for the {nl} variable?

I'm not quite sure what the "expected" behavior is, as the "Image Info" in the right-click menu is a sub-menu where each line is its own item rather than a text box like most other places where variables will be evaluated, but what I did find is that if you put a space character on an otherwise blank line, rather than the {nl} variable, you should get the results you are looking for.
