Clean My Mac?
« on: July 07, 2026, 02:04:36 AM »
I have a memory of reading that you needed to exclude Photo Mechanic from the Clean My Mac cleanup operation, but I cannot find any mention of it from searching this forum, the Facebook group or from a google search.

Can anyone enlighten me on this. Did I imagine it? Has Clean My Mac fixed the issue?

And if I do need to exclude Photo Mechanic from Clean My Mac, can anyone explain how it's done. There appears to be no easy "excluding an app" option in Clean My Mac.

Thanks.

Hi myotis,

Thumbnails flashing in the contact sheet is a symptom of Clean My Mac interfering with Photo Mechanic.

The only Clean My Mac documentation I found that refers to an ignore list is for Clean My Mac Business: https://macpaw.com/support/cleanmymac-business/knowledgebase/set-up-ignore-list

Searching for Ignore List in the non-Business Clean My Mac documentation did not return results for the same Settings option. The closest option seems to be the Smart Care Settings that has an Applications dropdown where you may be able to deselect Photo Mechanic from the list if it appears. https://macpaw.com/support/cleanmymac/knowledgebase/smart-care

Thanks for this.

I haven't noticed any flashing of thumbnails. Does this happen when Clean My Mac runs as a background app, or after Clean My Mac has "cleaned" some important Photo Mechanic file.

You are welcome. It would happen after Clean My Mac "cleans" important files for Photo Mechanic.

I’ve used Clean My Mac for 18 months and have never encountered a conflict with PM.

I've actually used both for years without noticing a conflict.

I was responding to a recent post (which I thought was in the Facebook group) where Camera Bits acknowledged a conflict and advised exclusion.

So I thought I should check it out before running my next Clean My Mac scan.

I run a scan about once a week on average.

I only run it about once a month, but have the malware protection running in the background.
