Incorrect Date Created written to XMP
« on: July 21, 2026, 05:10:36 AM »
Photo Mechanic Version 6.0, build 7285 on macOS 15.7.7

I'm ingesting and writing metadata to XMP. Some - not all - of my files are being dated 06/07/2026 (July 6 for US readers). This appears random and can happen to some files shot on the same day. The correct date appears in Photo Mechanic but on importing to Lightroom the sort order changes and the incorrect date becomes apparent.

A direct import to LrC does not show the problem so I believe PM is somehow adding the incorrect date.

From a picture made on 20 July (20/07/2026)

   photoshop:DateCreated="2026-07-06T12:24:17"
   xmpRights:Marked="True"
   xmpRights:WebStatement="https://www.davidgordon.co.uk/license-photographs"
   xmp:CreateDate="2026-07-06T12:24:17"
   xmp:Rating="0"
   Iptc4xmpCore:CountryCode="GBR"

The screenshot shows how LrC reports the date from another image.

Solving my own problem... Is it possible I've accidentally ticked the 'Date' when updating some metadata?

In which case is there an easy way to revert this to the correct date?

I'll answer my own question again in case someone else is as daft as me.

Set the Date to Capture Time. That's reset the date which LrC uses and everything is back to normal.
