JPEG-XL Metadata not visible

PM+ 2026.5 added JPEG-XL read-only capabilities.  While I can now view the image , the metadata does not display.
Is that expected behavior?  I was expecting that "read-only" would include viewing the metadata as well.
Doesn't seem to matter what created the JXL file.  I can create JXL images from VueScan or Lightroom
I use PM+ to add metadata to  new images ( from camera or scanner), Edit the images in Light Room. If I export that edited image as a JXL file PM+ doesn't show any metadata.
Other tools ( exiftool, Apple Photos, MAC Preview, Finder ... ) do display it.
