PM.LOG growing
« on: June 21, 2007, 09:15:11 AM »
I noticed that my PM.LOG is now over 83Mb and I cleaned it out a month ago.  Should this continue to be a huge text file or is there some diagnostic switch I can turn off to preserve disk space and eliminate some extraneous writes?

Windows XP Pro, PM 4.5.1.1.

I'd sure like to see that log file next time it is large.

You can safely delete it.  I have found out why it is getting so large and it will be fixed in version 4.5.2.

Do you have an ETA for the next version?  My PM.log is 50MB after 2 days of use of the trial. This is slowing things down a lot. If I switch PM from a background window to the active window it takes about 10 seconds for the app to become responsive. If I then check what it's doing, it's all PM.log related.  Maybe thats more of a symptom than a cause, but then what could be causing this slow respons? Im just browsing through dirs with a few dozen 20MB Nikon Raw files on an eSATA raid system.

August 10th is when I expect 4.5.2 to be out.

Good to know you've fixed this, I suspect the heavy logging indeed sometimes did slow PM down.
Anxious  to try out the 4.5.2. version  :D

Thanks again for all the hard work.  Never have I seen product developers this responsive to problem reports and suggestions.  Really cool guys!

Kirk,

You indicated the problem with an excessive sized log file will be fixed in the next release. However, will we need to delete it first, or will the new version automatically shrink (or delete) a log file that has grown too large.

You'd have to delete it manually.

But for the other posters, updating the log file takes literally little to no time at all and should not affect the performance of PM.  So if you're having performance problems, it is likely something else besides an overly large PM.log file.
