Differnce in Image Quality
« on: June 30, 2007, 08:51:46 PM »
When I have made all my edits on Capture NX, save the edits why is the image quality so different between an extracted jpeg from PM and a save as jpeg from Capture NX. I have included a link for your input. Kirk if you like I can ftp the original nef and the extracted image. There is also a screen shot of the PM nef and jpeg after extraction. You can see the difference in the light table.

When you extract the embedded JPEG from the NEF file, no processing is done whatsoever by PM to the embedded JPEG.  It is what it is.  I don't know what Capture NX does to render the NEF when doing a Save as JPEG that would be different from what it does to embed the JPEG into the NEF but there certainly could be differences.  It may simply be a difference in ICC profile, pixel resolution, or final sharpening of some sort.

For best quality we always recommend using your favorite RAW converter to create your JPEGs.
