Problems with "tagged" files
« on: July 24, 2007, 06:39:18 AM »
Hello,
After shooting raw files. I renamed and added IPTC. I sortted though the files and tagged the files I wanted to save and open. I can not open the tagged files.
Can someone tell me how to open these files?

Thanks!
Tate

What OS are you running?
What version of Photo Mechanic are you using?
What type of RAW files are you shooting?
What application are you trying to open them with?
Does this application give you an error message?

I really need more details in order to help you out.

Much better.  Could you please upload one of your sample files to our server?  Please contact me with directly by clicking on my name to the left of this message.  Send me a personal message.  I will respond with server upload info.

Thanks,

Tate,

This problem was fixed several months ago.  If I recall it had to do with Canon not properly writing IPTC data and subsequent editing with PM causing the TIFF table to become truncated (a case of garbage in - garbage out you might say).

I think we had a workaround for this by version 4.4.3.3 which you should definitely update to (its a free update from 4.4.3.1).  Then make a copy of one of the files you are having problems with and use the Revert TIFF-based RAW to original command in the Tools menu and see if this fixes the problem.  If not, you might try using the latest 4.5.1.1 version to do the revert (this worked for me from your "bad" file).
