Same photos appearing two folders
« on: August 04, 2007, 03:28:06 PM »
Three each photos from two different older folders suddenly appeared in a recently created folder. When I dragged one eachßßßß to the appropriate folder, I received a message saying the item already exists and did I want to replace etc. A check of the earlier folders show the photos in place. All the  folders were created in the Finder on a Macbook Pro running OS X 10.4.10. I am using V 4.1.1.  Magic?? Thanks, Richard

The version I listed is incorrect. It is 4.5.1.1. Sorry, Richard

Kirk: you're talking to a real novice. If I had any idea how to do it, I'd be glad to, but.......
Thanks, Richard

If you're under windows, you can use the print screen button on the keyboard to copy an image to the clip-board this image can then be pasted into your favourite image editing software and saved as jpg to attach to your message here.

* print screen on its own copies the whole screen
* if you also press the alt key, it copies only the active window

Hayo: thanks for the reply. Not sure what you mean by "if you're under windows". I am using a Mac Powerbook and do not see a print screen key. Richard

Command-Shift-3 will do a similar thing on Mac OS X.  A file named Picture 1 will be generated on your desktop.  You can then open up that picture, edit it down to the pertinent area, save as JPEG and post it to the forums by using the "Additional Options..." link below the edit area.

Kirk: The bottom most five pix are from two different folders. They just appeared after creating a new folder. Richard

Where did you perform the drag and drop?  PM, Finder, or ???

I meant if you're running Windows.  But I see you are smarter and run a Mac :)
(We will switch to Mac this year)

Anyway, Kirk already pointed out how to do it on a Mac.

Kirk: I never did a drag and drop. I only tried to drag and drop after they had appeared in the new folder thinking they were misplaced. The pix are in the original folders, so somehow these became duplicated. Per original post, Magic?? Richard

I suppose it could be ;)

When you created the folders in the Finder did you copy anything into them then?

Anyway, I'm fairly certain that this isn't a bug in Photo Mechanic...

Kirk: when I create a new folder in the Finder, I do not put anything into it. After creation, I close the Finder and PM as well and re-open PM and then do an ingest into the new folder. Don't think this is worth pursuing unless it re-appears as it is not causing any problems. Thanks for your great help. Richard
