Getting Started
« on: August 05, 2007, 02:33:18 PM »
Hi,

If I hit F1 or choose Help from the menu, nothing happens. I manually opened the html file C:\Program Files\Photo Mechanic 4.5\Help. I'm wondering if that is currently all that is available.

I'm looking for an alternative to LightRoom for keywording. I didn't find any reference to keywording in the help file, although I see there is a keywording panel available in under the Image menu.

I have a third-party keyword list that I would like to import.

Really just looking for pointers on how to quickly get up and running to get a feel for it.

Regards,
Keith

You can get a copy of the PM ver 4.4 manual here:

http://camerabits.fileburst.com/Photo%20Mechanic%204%20Manual.pdf

There are differences, obviously, but this will help you to get started. They are working on a new manual.

If you search the forum for "keywords" there is some information that might be helpful to you as well.

The full manual (for version 4.4 only, the 4.5 manual is in progress) is available on our downloads page:

http://www.camerabits.com/download/index.html

The keywording capability is much improved in the upcoming 4.5.2 version.  There are two kinds of keywording options: the original linear list of keywords that has always been a part of Photo Mechanic, and the new hierarchical Structured Keywords.

What is the format of your third-party keyword list?

It's the cvkc from controlledvocabulary.com, Kirk.

Great, then there is already a Photo Mechanic-specific version available and 4.5.2 on Windows will work with it just fine.

I expect PM 4.5.2 to be out by the end of the week.

Keith:

I don't believe you are on the ControlledVocabulary forum but that's always a good place to ask about these kinds of issues. You'll find the sign up for that forum at http://www.controlledvocabulary.com/forum.html if you are interested.

The support page for the Controlled Vocabulary Keyword Catalog (CVKC) has had information on modifying your version of the CVKC for a few weeks. That page is located at: http://www.controlledvocabulary.com/help/cvkc-photomechanic.html.

A more comprehensive means of modifying the actual text file (using a text editor) is currently in production, but I'm happy to send a PDF version to anyone that is interested. Just contact me directly. My email may be in my signature below, if it doesn't appear, use the mail link on the CV website contact page, at http://www.controlledvocabulary.com/contact.html.

Hope that helps.
