Lockdown when saving from Capture NX

I have NX set as the default editor in PM.

I tell PM to edit a picture.
It goes into NX fine.
When finished editing I tell NX to save (Ctrl-s)
Sometimes it locks down and I have to stop the process (Ctrl-Alt-Del).

Any Hints?

Is it Capture NX that is hanging or is it Photo Mechanic?

Weird, I've never seen this behaviour with NX and PM.

What version of Windows, NX, and PM are you using?
Are you perhaps short on memory?
Are you saving across a network?
Is your Harddisk failing maybe?

Maybe these questions can help identify the culprit.

Actually, the program that hangs is NX.  This condition is not seen when I open NX from outside PM, however.

I'm not sure how PM can affect the behavior of another application like that.  What happens if you launch Capture NX first, then PM, and then send images from PM to Capture NX?
