XMP versus IPTC?
« on: November 29, 2007, 09:32:37 AM »
Hi,

I cannot say that I knpw much about IPTC or XMP other how to use it. I have read that XMP is replacing IPTC. Some say that IPTC is getting to be out of date and XMP will completely replace it. How is it with PM, does it support both or just IPTC? What is the future of these formats according to Camerabits?

Cheers,
Hilmar

XMP has been supported in Photo Mechanic since version 4.4.  We feel that XMP is definitely the future for several reasons:

1) It is always multi-lingual capable.
2) It is a superset (for the most part) of IPTC.
3) It is extensible (you can add custom data for your own purposes.)

Photo Mechanic supports both IPTC and IPTC4XMP.
