Reading Metadata into online catalog
« on: March 05, 2008, 08:36:59 AM »
Hi:

My church has around 11k photos at present.  We are currently using PM to add metadata and keywords to the photos.

Our goal is to get them all keyworded, then upload them on our server.  Using some kind of front end, our users could key in their search words.  The online app would have all of the photos indexed with keywords it extracted from the metadata.  Once you enter your search, the website would search the list of keywords it extracted from the photos.  It would then return thumbnails of the photos that matched the keywords you search for.  Finally, you could download full res photos of the ones you liked?

Does anyone know of any software (or online app) that would be able to:
  • Index the photos
  • Read the metadata (especially the keywords)
  • Enable users to login (with individual usernames and passwords)
  • Enable users to enter search terms
  • Search the photos' metadata for keyword matches
  • Return the results to the user
  • Enable user to review thumbnails
  • Select photos to download to their computer from the online app (full resolution)

Any ideas?   ???

I appreciate any help.   :)

I believe there are many online services that can do all of that.  Two that come to mind are PhotoShelter and DigitalRailroad, both of which Photo Mechanic has uploaders for.

you could try Menalto Gallery2 ( http://gallery.menalto.com/ )
But the IPTC Search capability is not perfect at the moment.

Maybe the 4images gallery may be better: http://www.4homepages.de/
using the latest version of PM on win10
