How to transfer PM settings from PC to Mac
« on: March 10, 2008, 07:05:45 AM »
I just moved from a Win XP PC to a MacBook Pro and would like to transfer all of my previous settings from the PC to the Mac. Is there a way for this or do I have to set everything manually and try not to forget something?
Working on Mac, OSX, iOS and with some Canons.
Allways shooting RAW.

There is currently no way to transfer all settings from the Windows version to the Mac OS X version.

Thanks Kirk

That leaves to do it manually. What are the settings that can be transferred from one to the other?

You can copy the snapshot files from one system to the other and they should work for the most part.  Anything that has paths in it won't work of course since Windows/DOS paths are completely different from Mac OS X/Unix paths.

You can find the snapshot files by holding down the Shift key while you choose any snapshot from the "lightning bolt" button in various dialogs.  A Windows Explorer window will come forward with that snapshot selected.  All of the snapshots are saved in individual folders for each dialog.  You could then try to copy that folder structure to your Mac if you'd like.  I haven't tested this but it should work in most cases (other than paths.)

Thanks Kirk!
Is there a similar way for transfering the IPTC stationary pad dropdown menus or it is a completely different story?

Those can be done from the Preferences dialog.  Near the bottom, there are two buttons: Export and Import.  They'll do those lists.

Thanks again Kirk, I mistakenly thought it saves the preferences settings.
Thanks a lot!
