preserved filename

Hi,

Is there a way to copy the filenames of images in the field 'preserved filename', before renaming the files?
(I'm new with photomechanic.)

I think the field name is: xapMM:PreservedFileName

I think this is a damned useful field for most photography workflows.
You can see the field in action when you do a batch rename in Bridge.

I use now ExifTool in a Perl routine to do the updates, but it would be very useful if this could be done in PM.

No.  Photo Mechanic has no capability to do what you're asking.

Why is this an important field?
When I used my internal numbering, I received 6% mistakes in ordering.
Now I use a simplified name for customers, which includes a control letter: I haven't had wrong ordering since.

For now just pick any field in IPTC (I use "Object Name") and insert the variable {filename} or {filenamebase}. Now apply IPTC stationary to images- and voila: you have it.

I do this on ingest so it's a no-brainer.

It would be an option to use a different field, but I've learned the hard way that this is a recipe for disaster.
Besides if there is a suitable and supported field, why not use it?
I have written a small program in Perl, but it would be so usefull to have it directly in PM.

Usage:
1. My clients do not need to know my internal filenaming
2. By using simplified names for clients, I solved the problem of mistakes in ordering.
