PhotoMechanic on Vista 64bit systems ?
« on: August 14, 2008, 01:11:05 AM »
Hello,
thinking about upgrading my PC to Vista 64bit system, I wonder if Photomechanic will run 64bit.
Any experiences?

Regards
Christian

Photo Mechanic runs fine on 64-bit Windows OSes.  The only thing that doesn't work is the "Open with Photo Mechanic" contextual menu addition for Windows Explorer.

Kirk,
I assume this "bug" includes the fact that Photo Mechanic does not show up as one of the choices for programs to launch when you insert a memory card into the reader.  Do you think you'll be able to fix this?  It's minor, but quite annoying, since PM is the program I want to run 99% of the time when I insert a CF card.

Thanks,
Danny

No, that would be an AutoPlay issue.  I don't think it is related to 64-bit issues.  AutoPlay either works well on a system or it mostly doesn't work at all.

Regarding 64bit bug: "The only thing that doesn't work is the "Open with Photo Mechanic" contextual menu addition for Windows Explorer." Can this be corrected?
We have recently upgraded several users to Windows 7 64bit so they could take advantage of additional RAM. They got used to the contextual menu and not having it has slowed there work flow. Let me know if their is a temporary work around that could be implemented.
Thanks.

I know of no workarounds at this time.  There are other methods, like drag and dropping the photos or folder onto the Photo Mechanic desktop icon which will cause the photos to be browsed.

At some point yes.  I'm not sure when that will be however.

Are you implying that "AutoPlay" should work on a Vista64 system?    I've been trying to get mine to work for a while now.  tried a few suggestions from other posts, but still no go...

No.  To clarify: AutoPlay on 64-bit systems is known not to work correctly with Photo Mechanic's current AutoPlay handler.

Ok, that is what I thought...  Any timeline for a new/compatible AutoPlay handler?

Thanks.
