Drop down or auto fill ?

This appears so straightforward, I fear I must have overlooked the obvious.
I have loaded up a list of Uk cities and towns to use the drop down menu.
If I want to choose London, then I need to highlight London on the list.
Is there a way - or is it practical - that as I started to type L o and then n that it would take me to Lon: at the moment it takes me to the first in the list that starts with an L, then the first that starts with an O etc.

Auto-completion is coming in version 4.6.
