free IPTC reader?
« on: September 12, 2008, 06:36:14 PM »
I am shooting some school sports stuff and submitting to a small community newspaper whose news editor uses a 10 year old Mac (that's what they told me) and they use their finder to look at photos.

They need a file viewer that can read standard IPTC data (to be able to read my PM IPTC files). Are there any FREE programs for mac that show this data?

Cheers, Bill

For me it works with Preview but mine is a newer Mac. You may try to check out http://osx.iusethis.com/search?q=iptc you may search on any program it has some great suggestions.
Working on Mac, OSX, iOS and with some Canons.
Allways shooting RAW.

They're probably using Mac OS 9 which won't run any Mac OSX apps.

My contact mentioned that she was using an older mac, so I assume you're right.

Any other ideas, short of them buying the program?

We do have a really old version of Photo Mechanic (3.2.7) that runs on Mac OS 9.  We don't sell it online anymore but you could have them call 503-547-2880 and I'm sure they could purchase it.
