ISO Country codes in Stationary pad
« on: October 22, 2008, 12:56:02 AM »
Hi guys

I would have one small request if it would be possible for some future release of PM. At the moment, we have option to choose ISO Country code in IPTC Stationary pad. List is made already, and it's great... especially if you are just photographer sending your photos from place you are currently at. If you also do job of editor, and you have to correct captions of other photographers from around the world, this gets a bit harder. At least for myself, I can say I don't know 3 letter ISO code of every single country on World, so normally I do search on Wikipedia for this, and in case of deadline, it can take extra few seconds, which could be spend better way.

Now my request would be, if there would be chance of course, to add also country description to this field, so pop-up menu for Country code would look like:

Germany - DEU
China - CHN
Italy - ITA
...

This way you could find proper code for some country you never deal with before, without going through Wikipedia. Of course in country code field in IPTC, it would stay just 3 letter ISO code, so this form of presentation would be just help to find proper code easier.

I hope you know what I mean. I'm sorry if my description is a bit confusing, but my English is far from perfect.

Greetings from Slovenia,
Primoz

Yes, I understand.  The UI would then have to be changed from a type-down list (you can just type in the three letter code) to a regular popup menu instead.  This may slow down other users that just like to type in the three letter code.  I suppose both could be available, side-by-side, with the Country name list used as an assist.
