Find and replace in IPTC fields
« on: October 31, 2008, 12:10:59 AM »
Mac 10.5.5, Macbook with 3 GB RAM. PM 4.5.3.2

Firstly I cannot seem to paste info to be found and replaced into the find window

Secondly, unless I'm missing something it doesn't find or replace stuff...

Yes, I have selected all the images I wish to be searched, and checked the caption box, hit case sensitive etc but still no luck

What am I doing wrong or is it a PM issue?

I don't know what would be the cause.  I just tested it myself with four images that had the 'Find' text in them and they were replaced with the 'Replace' text.  See the example image below.

Hi Kirk, see screenshot attached

I quit PM and rebooted, after this I COULD paste stuff into the find window but the
action of replacing still does not work. I'm totally baffled and why would it work on your machine and not mine?

cheers
Simon

Does the word "WHITE" exist in your image?  If it instead is written as "White", "white", or some other combination of case then you need to turn off the case sensitivity.

HTH,

Hi Kirk, the incidence of white that I'm using as a test case appears in the caption like this:  PHOTOGRAPH BY SIMON DE TREY-WHITE
so that should be replaced?

Try finding "TREY-WHITE" and replacing with "TREY-BLACK" and I think it will work.  The search is word-based.

Simon's issue was that he had multiple lines of text in the Find field (that couldn't be seen).  Typing Command-A to select all of the text and then pressing the backspace key will clear out the field completely.
