save as issue
« on: January 07, 2009, 03:43:50 PM »
I'm having a problem performing a simple save operation. I've included a screen snap showing the error.
Note it only happens when I try and rename the file when saving. I'm using 4.5.4 with a macbook pro. Also
I've never had this problem before and I save and change file name all the time.
Anyone?

Are you saving multiple files?  If so, your renaming string does not include the sequence variable so all of the photos will get the same name.  Photo Mechanic will try to resolve the naming conflict by appending letters or digits (your choice, you can set this up in the Files tab of the Preferences dialog) but if it runs out of letters or digits then the operation will fail.

Kirk,
No– this happens when saving one file. It doesn't happen with multiple files. I know to check the sequence box.

Is there something special about the destination folder you're saving into?  Do you have permission to create/write files there?
Does the same thing happen if you save from a different set of files?

It happens regardless of where I save, desktop, hd, network, anywhere.

What happens if you save from a different set of photos, say, one that worked before?

Kirk,
No that doesn't work either. But I think i've narrowed it down a bit.
When I log into my machine using the "admin" I have no problem saving.
So I believe it is probably some type of permissions thing.
Weird because I haven't made any changes using the "admin" login.
I have a call into our IT people to help on this.
