ISO a good Image Database

My ever-expanding digital image collection is getting unwieldy. I need a full featured image database that allows me to quickly retrieve images from my hard drives (or archived hard drives). Any suggestions?

some people use picasa for that
also a look worth is Microsoft Pro Photo tools:
http://www.microsoft.com/prophoto/default.aspx
and of course our loved PhotoMechanic, - when its finished..
