Now back to your original question:
How many files are in the folder you're browsing?
What kind of network do you have, i.e. how fast is it?
What sorting method are you using? Filename is the fastest, Capture Time is the slowest (along with any custom sorts.)
Basically when you switch back to PM, it scans the folders of each contact sheet tab looking for changes. Normally this scanning is very fast, though if you've got a slow network, this could take time.
