Hi there Kirk et al,

One of the things that I've quite liked about Photo Mechanic is that it always defaults to "copy" rather than "move", and that you have to check that box each time to confirm that you want to delete the files in the original folder. Seems like a nice little safety precaution to me. But in the latest version, I've found it defaulting to "move" (or remembering whatever the last state was) - Is this intentional or a glitch?

It is intentional.  Many people requested that we remember their last setting so we made the change.

I'm with jjtiziou - Ouch!  One of the few things I would prefer to not be "remembered".

I wonder if there really are more folks that always move instead of copy?

Remembering settings is certainly a useful feature... in general. But I really liked that extra little bit of safety... I'd love to see that particular checkbox retention enabled via a preference...

Count me as someone who uses "move" frequently and rarely uses "copy."  I personally like this check box being remembered.

Add me to the 'usually move instead of copy' brigade.
I like the checkbox to remember the previous state, but have no qualms with it being an option.

I guess my major qualm with the move/copy thing is that they are both accessed via the same menu item/shortcut, which is clearly labeled as "copy"

- so by remembering that checkbox, you create a situation where you're hitting the menu item for "copy" but you end up doing a move... if they were two separate shortcuts or menu items, I'd be totally fine with all settings being remembered...

I have added a new checkbox to the Copy Options dialog titled "Always clear 'Move photos' option when showing this dialog" that allows the old behavior of clearing the Move checkbox.

If anyone on this thread would like to test this, please let me know.

Hey there Kirk,

I'm also happy to test this out for you -> I'm on osX 10.5.7

Also, one little subtle but obvious thing that you could hopefully do to clarify this is make the actual confirmation button change to say "Move" instead of "Copy" if that's what it's going to do... This may be an OS-level thing, and I'm not sure if it's feasible, but right now even if the move box is checked, I'm still ending up clicking on an item that says "copy" despite the fact that it's not actually going to do that... this inconsistency is where problems can arise...

thanks!
-jj
