I geotag a lot of my photos with a GPS connected to the camera and the "Show Map..." function in PM is very useful for seeing a photos location. In some ways, however, Google Earth is a much better map viewer, so my question is, would it be possible to have a function in PM which would show a photos location in Google Earth? Something like right-click photo, select "Show location in Google Earth", and GE pops up and moves to the location. This could require GE to be installed and possible even running already.

You can use the Export function with the 'KMZ' exporter.  The selected photos will be placed into a .KMZ file along with their information.  You then open up this KMZ file in Google Earth to view them.  The KMZ exporter first appeared in the 4.6.0 version of Photo Mechanic.

Kirk, that does sound like an interesting function, even if I was hoping for a quicker, more direct option for a single image.

Also, I am unable to try the KMZ export because PM hangs at the end of the "Generating Images..." step. I have waited at least 15 minutes with no response before killing PM. This is on Windows with PM 4.6.1 and using Nikon nef files or jpegs created by Capture NX 2. Let me know if you want me to send you a jpeg file to test on.

Do you mean while using the KMZ exporter?

Yes, that is correct. After selecting Export to KMZ, PM counts through the images and hangs after the last image using one cpu 100% "forever" (I have waited at least 15 minutes).

Sure, send me an image.  Please click on my name to the left of this message, then click on the 'personal message' link.  I will respond with upload instructions.

BTW, what OS are you running, and which version of Photo Mechanic are you running?
