PM and Capture IPTC Data Format...
« on: August 02, 2006, 07:56:54 AM »
PM annotating a NEF seems to be different.  If I do the following,

•   PM used to add IPTC
•   Edit in NX
•   Hit Save.
•   Get error from NX

Quote
Please enter the date in the format mm/dd/yyyy

•   My Windows system default is YYYYDDMM
•   PM uses Windows System Default

However, if I annotate using iView, Bridge or NX it works.

Is there a standard format for the IPTC dates?

You edit what in NX?

Yes, and is completely separate from how it is displayed in a dialog.  PM writes out the date in the proper IPTC date format when it creates the IPTC record.

Thanks,

I edit just the image.  I leave the IPTC data alone.

Did a another test and changed the default date format to mm/dd/yyyy in Windows regional setting and repeated the steps, there was no errors.

When I changed the date back to yyyymmdd, the error comes back.

How about you upload two files to our server.  One in the "default" date format, and one with the date adjusted to your preferred format.  I will examine the two files.

Let me know when the files have been uploaded.

Thanks,

Kirk,

I did send it last night, but it died on the last file.

Over the past few hours I've tried a number of times to FTP, it connects (I can see the server folder structure), but does not allow any transfers.

I did get your images last night.  We need your new samples for the date issue you are reporting.

FWIW, I traced through the code and it doesn't matter what format the date control displays.  Photo Mechanic always puts the date in the IPTC record in the following format: YYYYMMDD

They are uploaded.

I looked at the two files.  The NX version doesn't even have a IPTC created date field in it.  The PM version does, and the format of the data is correct as can be.

You say that if you change the system date format to MM/DD/YYYY and then caption in PM that NX suddenly likes the file?

I would like to see a sample of that file as well.

It is looking more like an incompatibility in Capture NX to me.  I'm guessing that NX doesn't like the TIFF table being relocated from offset 8.

Did somemore testing and I strongly believe this is now a NX problem.

In PM change IPTC, opened in NX, deleted create date, saved, exited, open in PM and IPTC was there. The issue is with NX and when it asks for the "Please enter the date in the format mm/dd/yyyy" and if you don't change, it eliminates the IPTC info. Now my edit workflow has to change the created date before saving.  :'(

Kirk, thanks, but I've now sent this to Nikon Support.
