Loss of spellcheck in file info box
« on: September 13, 2009, 10:07:56 PM »
I just noticed that the auto spellcheck isn't working very well since I updated to OSX 10.6. I never noticed any issues before installing the new OS. It seems to only recognize every 2nd or 3rd misspelled word. Spell check seems to work well in all other programs... Any ideas?

Not offhand, but perhaps Photo Mechanic's Autocomplete is interfering.  Do you have Autocomplete turned on?

Autocomplete is new in version 4.6.x.  What version of Photo Mechanic are you running?

What would be an example of a set of words where this problem would occur?

Im running 4.6.1 on a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6. Autocomplete is disabled, and the spellcheck is enabled as I type. Im still having the issue.

Thanks.  I'll check into it.  Spellchecking services are provided by Mac OS X, not Photo Mechanic, but it is possible that the spellchecking services are not reliable when the text field is in a modal dialog.

I'll post back here what I find.

A bug report has been filed with Apple on this issue.  Hopefully they'll provide a fix.

Any word yet? I wonder why not all users are having this issue. Is there perhaps a temporary fix or way around it?

The only word from Apple is that they already know about the bug (they marked mine as a duplicate bug.)  Marking my bug as a duplicate means that I no longer have easy access to status on the bug.  I have to ask for status by contacting developer technical support each time.

There is no temporary fix, nor is there a workaround at this time.  This bug affects all modern Mac OS X applications that configure text views the same way that Photo Mechanic does when running on Snow Leopard.

You can however, bring up the Spell check panel and force it to do a spell check manually which does appear to work but isn't interactive.

I did force spell check, and it didn't work either. By "force spell check" I mean I highlighted text, right clicked and chose "spelling & grammar", and clicked "check document now". Is that the way you mean?

Thanks Kirk! This is why we all love PM. Its a great program with amazing customer service.

Hmm. When I tried it, it worked for me.  I'll have to verify and possibly add more information to the bug report.

I am having the same problem with auto spell-check. when typing it is not checking. If I force check (command-; )it seems to work ok. This has happened since the 10.6.1

Any updates?

This issue is firmly on Apple's side.  I have no news to report.
