4.6.3 beta - live ingest including RAW
« on: February 08, 2010, 06:27:51 AM »
Just starting to play with this...we are thrilled.

Quick thoughts:

1. Is there a reason not to have a local stationary pad option?

2. When shooting tethered wouldn't a 5 second delay be a realistic option?
You could have a warning come up if it was selected....

More news as we carry out some more strenuous tests.

Hi,

1. Is there a reason not to have a local stationary pad option?

This could indeed be added in a future release.

2. When shooting tethered wouldn't a 5 second delay be a realistic option?
You could have a warning come up if it was selected....

We didn't want to take any chances, but you may be right.

A 5 second option with a warning sounds reasonable to me.

Regards,

Bill

Great.

We've been playing with this and it all seems to work flawlessly.
Its already part of our workflow.

Another minor addition could be the option not to delete the original file.

Do we have to actively stop the live ingest process???
I notice that pm keeps the ingest dialog active and processes are very busy....
When I try to stop through ingest window it brings up active ingest warning.

When I try to stop through ingest window it brings up active ingest warning.

I'm not sure if I've understood, but the way it's supposed to work, is:

A Live Ingest task indeed does continue running until it is explicitly stopped via the Ingest Progress window.

When a Live Ingest task is running, it will display "Waiting for files to ingest....." in the Ingest Progress window.

If you stop the task, it should bring up a confirmation dialog box asking, "Do you really want to stop the Ingest operation?"

Above, when you write, "processes are very busy", do you mean it's using a lot of CPU time?

Normally, Live Ingest shouldn't use much CPU time while waiting for files to ingest.  However, it does do some work at intervals to scan for the arrival of new files.

Has this helped?  Not sure if I've answered your question.

Bill

Yes, that answers it.
Of course most ingests have a passive finish, this requires an active ending.
The dialog implies that there may still be images coming in.
Not a big deal.
As for the processes, I'll keep an eye on it. I just sensed a major computer slowdown.
Overall the live ingest is fantastic!

I can't figure out how to make my Live Ingested pictures to automatically being shown in Main window.

I named my "Live Ingest source folder"   Incoming

In "Destination Processing" I set the Primary Destination Root Path pointing to a folder named the current date ex. 2010-03-01.

Photo Mechanic is effectively watching the source folder and copying the photos to the Destination folder.

But to see those pictures I still have to manually drag that Destination folder to the Photo Mechanic Main window.

How can that main window automatically show me newly added pictures?

Thanks

Richard

Did you set the check box titled "Open Contact Sheets during Ingest" in the "Destination Processing" section for each of the destinations you wish to interactively work with?

Thanks Kirk,

It was right under my nose!!!!!

About the Live Ingest with RAW files I find a 10 seconds delay before Ingesting way too long,

To me, Live Ingest has became a big time saver in my workflow since my client can sit in front of the computer and pick the photos he likes and tell me what doesn't work as I am shooting.

The ten second delay is only for the first photo shot (or after a long break between shots) so if you shoot in rapid succession there is no delay (other than the time to copy) between subsequent shots.

I think I'd like to try a 5 second delay...right now that 1 seconds seems like forever.

Also...will you guys make menu toolbar item to start the Live Ingest process? I currently use the shortcut (Shift-Command-G) but prefer to click on stuff. I know...I'm so 90's.
