Copy Errors every time with 4.6.3 and 4 Gig Cards
« on: March 28, 2010, 12:20:51 PM »
I am getting copy errors every time I try to copy a 4 Gig disc. I use copy, not  ingest.
Raw plus JPEG copy.
It happens on both my desktop and laptop. Both use Windows 7. Both are new.
It happens on every card I have that is 4 Gig. Sandisk Ultra II and other brands.
I am copying using both USBII adapters and the built CF slot on the desktop.
The copy always starts fine and then stops well into it. I get an error message
that says there was a copy error. I then have to go in and figure out where it
stopped and then copy from there.

Any ideas?

Are you using any variables in your destination path?  Please post a screenshot of your Copy dialog before you start the copy process.  You can use the 'Additional Options...' link when you're composing your message to upload a JPEG screenshot.

How much longer is that path "C:\Harley\..."?  Is it a lot longer?
Is the disk you're copying to getting full?

The path is a lot longer. But the card does copy a certain percentage of the images before the error.
I will try a short path and report back.
My hard drive is at least 3/4 empty. About 300 gig available.

Same error, actually much quicker, with short path:

c:\PhotosTest\

What version do I need to back up to in order to get things working?
I have a fairly large shoot Monday on deadline and  I need to have things
back in working order by then.
I need the upgraded version so I can upload to PhotoShelter. I believe only the most recent
upgrades will allow a Photoshelter upload.

Thanks for working on this.

I don't know.  I have never heard of this issue on Windows before (other than issues using extremely long paths which has always been an issue.)

The only thing I can offer is to build you a logging version of PM to try and find out more about why the issue is happening.  Would you be willing to run a logging/test version?

I also tried copying entire card to Hardrive(Desktop) first and then opening and copying in PM and
the same copy error occured. So it appears that it is not related to the cards or the card readers.
