Resize - Fit within box W*H
« on: March 31, 2010, 02:24:22 AM »
Today the resize to W*H will distort the image.
I would like "Fit image within WxH" as I often want to allow images to be for example 800px wide but only 400px high....

In what part of the application will scaling cause distortion of the image?

Are you trying to do an automatic crop and change the the resolution at the same time?

In sending resized JPGs by mail, and I think also when sending by FTP. (Usually resampling to a lower res JPG from a TIF for example.)

FTP can only resize by percentage or fit into a box.  There is no provision to scale by a width and a height.

Send Photos via Email can scale to a width and a height but it should be incapable of changing the aspect ratio.  Please provide settings that cause a distortion of an image's aspect ratio, and please tell me the width and height of the original image so that I can try and reproduce the problem.

And if this is a problem and not a Feature Request, let's move this discussion to the Support forum.

Well, if its a bug lets move it!

I will have to start using that rescaling again and get back here when the problem occurs. You are saying that no scaling option should distort the image? (Fit withing box X and fit within WxH.)

Yes.  If you can get me a case where the image is distorted and I can reproduce it, I will definitely fix it.
