CD burn speed
« on: April 09, 2010, 07:53:22 AM »
I have CDs by @ and I have CDs by Memorex both are 52x 700MB single density. With the @ disk speed is 52x when burning disk. With the Memorex, disk speed is 4x. What causes this difference in PM? When I use Nero to burn disc the speed with the Memorex is faster, on par with the @ disc.

Windows XP

It sounds like the library we use to perform the disc burning on the Windows version can't tell that the Memorex discs can be burned at a higher speed.  What speeds are available in the menu when using a Memorex disc?

Slowest is 1x 176KB/s
Fastest is 4x 704KB/s with the Memorex.

Is this correctable? I didn't see a change with PM 4.6.4

No.  I don't have the source code to the disc burning library.

Sorry.

Do you have a list of what max speeds for which CD/DVD's. If not will PM in the future hook to software like Nero, Roxie .... The same way PM connects to an external editor?

No, I don't.  It could be dependent on the library and how it interacts with your particular hardware.  Almost impossible to make a list of what media and what each drive (hundreds of drive models and numerous media producers.)

PM will likely never 'hook to' any external disc burning software.

Didn't you have some media that burned at a fast speed?  Why not buy more of that media?

Come here for help with one problem and solve another.  Been using PM so long I didn't know it could burn discs!  Faster and easier than Nero for multiple disc burns on big folders - excellent.   Must have a poke around and see what else has changed while I've grown older.  Cheers
