Transferring data to a new computer
« on: May 09, 2010, 05:57:55 PM »
I am transferring everything from my old. dying XP machine to a new Windows 7 machine,  copied the IPTC files (both ipt and xmp) to a key and loaded on the new computer. But most of the data, i.e. keywords, city, location etc. etc. is gone.  How do I transfer my old data so I don''t have to reenter or save from each photo?

thanks

Robin

If you're running 4.6.x then you can export your settings from the Preferences dialog on the old machine, copy the exported settings to the new machine and import them from the Preferences dialog on the new machine.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me where those  files are actually stored in a xp operating system.

I  cant use the export feature as my OS was corrupted but I have the hard drive pulled out and plugged in to my laptop and would like to "export" them by copying them across if possible

Thanks
Steve

Is your new system also running XP?

Steve,

No new system is running windows 7 ( sorry meant to put that in the first post)

The old data will be in a path like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\<login name>\Application Data\Camera Bits, Inc\Photo Mechanic
