Auto Ingest

Hello,

Is it possible to develop a complete auto ingest method from a CF or SD card.

So you put the card in a reader and Pmechanic ingests the disk completely automatically without having to hit "ok" or "enter".

This sounds anal but at big sports events for photographers who are being edited remotely this is very practical. 

eg at the forthcoming soccer world cup - the photog positions will be so close together that there will not be enough space to have a laptop right next to you.  The laptops will have to go behind us and we will use CF card readers with long USB cables gaffer taped to the bottom of our chairs or stuck to the ad boards in front of us to ingest.  Turning round to stretch out and hit "enter" means you either have to turn around and miss action on the pitch while you ingest or wait for a break in the play.

This feature would also mean that when being remote edited at events where it is raining you can have your laptop completely water tight beneath a cover and just have a card reader hanging out so you can still ingest without the need to have to touch the keyboard or mouse pad to hit "ok" or "enter".

You can actually do an Auto Ingest from a card reader by using the Live Ingest mode. Just set the path to your card reader then pop in a card. Live Ingest will search the card but will not unmount the card from the desktop, the way Auto Ingest will. The card reader should tell you when the upload is finished when the blinking activity light becomes solid. I don't know about Windows but a Mac will give you an alert when a card is pulled before it has not been properly unmounted. That alert will go away after about 30 seconds... there's a good chance you won't even see it.
Essentially, instead of tethering a camera to PM, you are tethering a card reader. It works.

A great solution here would be an eye-fi wireless memory card, you shoot and the eye-fi card in the camera sends the images to laptop via an ad-hoc wifi connection..no card reader necessary.. the PM live ingest watches your eye-fi remote folder and as the images come in they can be auto-captioned and put into another folder of your choice, you just grab your laptop, quick edit and send
