Show Map with Terrain option
« on: May 27, 2010, 10:06:34 AM »
Would it be possible to have a Terrain map option in the GPS Map Browser dialog box?

I second this request. Much of my work is in wilderness areas, so I really need the terrain layer as reference for assigning image locations.

Doesn't the 'Satellite' button show up for you all?  If I click on it, the terrain is shown.

That is not what we mean. Terrain (see More on Google Maps), a digitized and shaded topographic map, looks like this:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&t=p&z=10

The API supports it. See for example:

UPDATE...

MyTopo is now offering all USGS and Natural Resources Canada topographic maps through the Google Maps API. Which would be fantastic to add to Photo Mechanic's Google Map window!

They have instructions here:

I added the Terrain button to the maps.  No update to PM is necessary.  The HTML files are stored on our server.
