Select Adobe Camera Raw as an Editor
« on: July 21, 2010, 03:26:43 PM »
As ACR can not only open RAW files, but also JPEG's and TIFF's. As ACR provides some pretty nice adjusment tools I once in a while I would like to open selected JPEG or TIFF files from within PM first in ACR before it opens in Photoshop.

I know how to set up default editors plus additonal editors in PM (like like different versions of Capture NX, Photoshop, PS Elements etc), but I have no idea how to select Adobe Camera Raw as an additonal editor. But as ACR is a plug-in rather than a stand alone program, I don't know how to point PM to ACR.

Has anyone an idea how to do that ??? ??? ???

Thanks in advance.

In photoshop, in Prefs, in File Handling, check on "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPG files"
Then when you "edit" a JPG in PM, Photoshop will open in Camera Raw first, even for a JPG.

Thanks Bob  :)

I actualy knew that I can set the PS prefs to set ACR as prefered application for JPEG's (same can be done for TIFF's), but if one does that ALL JPEG's/TIFF's are first opend in ACR all the time. I was hopping to be able to choose (from within PM) whether I want them to open first in ACR or directly into PS on a picture by picture base.

But I guess if that's not possible I just go through the ACR step first all the time. Not really a big deal exept for a little more time needed and additional clicks (and as I get older I also get more lazy  ;D ;D).

It's not possible for PM to control that behavior.  It's an all or nothing setting inside Photoshop.

Thanks Kirk.

I was affraid that was the case as ACR is a plug-in and not a stand-alone application. Well, I'll work around it somehow.

I know I could use Bridge to selectivly open JPG's and TIFF's in ACR. But, , as we discussed in the past, I don't actually want to use Bridge it as it does not play nicely with my PM-NX2 workflow.
