PM will not read metadata created in Bridge
« on: October 04, 2010, 04:39:47 PM »
Hello;

PM does not read metadata frmo earlier files that had metedata when I used bridge.

I checked and yes there is metadata and the file is in the correct location.

I checked the images with bridge CS4 and the bridge will read the metedata.  However, PM will not read the data.

How can I rectify this??

My PM version 4.6.5 and I am using snow leopard with latest updates.

Thank you,   WilloW

What file types are you working with?  Do you have PM set to prefer XMP metadata?

Iain,

XMP files.  PM preferences set to  - see attached image,   Iain

I'd like some sample RAW files + the XMP sidecar files please.  Please click on my name to the left of this message, then click on the 'personal message' link.  I will respond with upload instructions.

Kirk;

Some more information

If I copy the RAW file and XMT file to another folder and open PM - it works.  I can read the metadata.

If I then replace the file in the original folder, I cannot read the metedata.

The folders have full permissions

Where are the files stored?  Have you tried the 4.6.6 beta?

Hi - Both the image file and the metadata file are stored in the SAME folder.  The metadata file is a sidecar file.  These files have never been removed from these initial folders.

No, I have not used the Beta version.

Should I?

If this solves me problem, where can I download the Beta version?  Do I just overright my current version with the Beta as per the usual new releases?

Thanks,   Iain

I expect that the RAW file and the XMP sidecar file are in the same folder, I was wondering where they were stored: on a local hard drive, on a server, etc.?

The beta version has all of the latest bug fixes in it.  See the Announcements section of the forums.  You can indeed install right over the older version if you like.

Sorry - I misunderstood.  Both files are stored on a local drive in my MAC - nothing unusualu about the set up.  Just one drive of three drives in the computer.  They are NOT raided but each is a serpate drive,   iain

My Photo Mechanic can read the metadata from your sample file "0901" just fine.  I don't know why it would not work for you all of the time unless this is a similar filename extension misnaming issue as well.  XMP sidecar files are not used with JPEGs.

If your issue is entirely repeatable, I'd be happy to send you a logging version of PM to try and get to the bottom of the issue.  Let me know what you want to do.

Hi Kirk

I'll check my files and ensure extensions are correct.  How and who they have chnaged is a mystery to me.  I will get back to you.  Cheers,  Iain
