Show crop lines in ITPC Info dialog
« on: October 10, 2010, 12:26:04 PM »
It would be nice when captioning to know that someone had been cropped out of a shot before adding their name to the caption.

While you are at it, how about allow cropping from this dialog?

My workflow for high volume sports events (a game that I maybe take 400-600 frames) is pretty much as follows..
1) Use Preview dialog to purge the OOF shots (by tagging, not really deleting).   Rate the others with 2-4 stars.  (One star means it probably should be deleted, but just not yet).  Crop images.
2) Delete the tagged images
3) Rename and apply IPTC stationery to everything
4) filter down to 2 stars and better, then use ITPC info dialog and code replacement file to write headlines.

The thumbnail is far too small to get an accurate crop.

Well, I concede your point for using the dialog for cropping for users that can't resize the dialog big enough... though I still think the dialog should display the crop lines.

The thumbnail isn't much smaller then what I use in the ContactSheet and it is enough to see how many people are cropped from the group photo you are writing a caption for. So this could be very helpful.

I found a solution that works for me...

Rather than going to the IPTC dialog from the contact sheet, go first to the Preview screen.

Then hit 'I' - that opens the IPTC dialog, leaving the preview screen in place.

Drag the IPTC dialog to another monitor (I use two), and tag away.

The Preview screen will follow along as I click through the images -- and I can see the crop on each frame.

Good solution but doesn't work for those working with a single screen on a laptop in the field.

Bump... this time of year I shoot field sports...  This enhancement would be great!

Forget about adjusting the crop on the IPTC dialog page -- but I would like to see what has previously been cropped so that I don't mistakenly add someone to the caption when they have been cropped out.
