Odd Behavior Color Coding
« on: June 19, 2011, 09:31:38 PM »
I've had various quirks with color coding with PM before. Beeping on each color code, Not advancing (though set to) on color code. But tonight - using 4.6.7 on a win 7 machine - I'm having dificulty getting consistent results - I can put a color code on a frame that has none but I can't change a code from 4 -3 - but the frame is advancing as though I did change the code???
Then it won't change the color code or advance but will display the cornor buttons (rotates, mag & iptc)
I'll reboot that usually resets these issues.

I'm a bit confused by what you're saying.  Part sounds like you're in the Preview window (changing color/advancing behavior) and part sounds like it is in the Contact Sheet (showing the hover buttons.)

So are there two different behaviors in two different parts of the program?

Sorry Kirk - Actually BOTH -
I restarted PM - no change. I rebooted - same.  I removed the preference to advance the put it back - NOT advancing.

I am noticing that IF pm lets me color code a file I can change it - but if it has a code I can't. If I'm on the contact it is not advancing if I'm in preview it does advance.

I did copy these from a laptop with different settings - I will check an older contact.

I also just checked the Perview vs contact - Same coding issue but Preview window advances contact does not.

Almost same issuse with older contacts but I CAN change a color code in prior contacts (This is the first time I have shot NEF only - I used to always shoot NEF + JPG.

I'm sorry if this is confusing you - IT'S CONFUSING THE HELL OUT OF ME.
I'm going to change thje advance setting & restart pm next.

Even Right clicking to change color class (preview or contact) will not change the color class. but will advance in preview window but not contact sheet.

Even Right clicking to change color class (preview or contact) will not change the color class. but will advance in preview window but not contact sheet.

The Contact Sheet does not advance.  It never has.  Only the Preview offers options to advance when tagging, rating or setting color class.

If you get the properties on these particular files, do you have write permission on them?
Can you save IPTC on them?
Can you rename them?

I can rename them but IPTC data is not saved - NO error but not saved.

AGAIN - This just seems to be an issue with NEF files that were color coded on my laptop and moved to this PC. The files that were not coded beore the move seem fine.

The files from a different body that shoots RAW + JPG seem not to have a problem.

Kirk - I just tried to apply IPTC to an image in the folder (NEF's only) and they do not show up BUT - when I opened the NEF in photoshop, edited & saved as PSD - the PSD has the IPTC data that was and is NOT visable when I look at the NEF?????

I just ran PM 4.6.7 (Windows XP) on your sample NEF file and I was able to change color class, rating and tag with no issues.  Can you post screen shots of your IPTC/XMP settings and your Files settings in the PM Preferences dialog?  Use the 'Additional Options...' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG format screenshots.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Kirk - I'm having this problem again - NEF's color coded on my laptop can't be changed at my PC. Uncoded images have no problem.

Attached is my preferences requested on the main PC.
