Problem with "Save photo as" command
« on: July 18, 2011, 07:34:38 AM »
I am running Photo Mechanic version 4.6.6 and I run Mac OS X 10.4.11 on my Intel-based Mac.

I'm having trouble with the "Save photo as" command when trying to save from a DNG.

If the "no scaling" box is checked in the image processing window a JPEG High Quality is rendered as a 1024 x 683, 404 KB file of low quality.  Similar results when asking for a TIFF file.

Checking the custom width box and adding the 5616 x 3744 pixel dimensions of the DNG gets a 6.8 MB JPEG file of poor quality, or a 6k0 MB TIFF file, also of very poor quality.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

Thanks,
Marshall Smith

What camera did the DNG file come from?

A Canon 5D MKII.

If you use the 'Extract JPEG Previews from RAW photos...' command on the Tools menu, do you get a low-resolution image?  If so, reconvert your DNG and have the DNG converter put in a higher quality JPEG preview.  If the source JPEG Preview is low resolution/quality, so will be the output of any Save as operation from the DNG file.
