No CR on Lightroom Import
« on: August 11, 2011, 08:26:28 AM »
Hello Kirk,

I prepare my images in PM prior importing them into LR. I´d like to have them culled out with all metadata entered before I have them imported into my LR database as my netbook, which I use on the road, would not be able to handle LR and PM is more efficient in these steps anyway  ;)

Problem is, that if I have to break a line (Enter-key) everything is fine in PM but LR completely ignores this "Enter-key".

Am I doing anything wrong with my settings?
I am writing to sidecarfiles, Line ending as recommended (CR), Latin 1 Western Europe and write IPTC as Unicode.

As far as I understand several articles I have read, this seems to be an older LR bug, that only occurs on Windows systems.
I just want to make sure, that I do not do anything wrong concerning PM´s settings.

Best regards
Michael

Try one of the other line ending settings in PM and see if that makes a difference.

Michael,

None of the other line endings makes a difference. Sorry.

Are you sure you're telling LR to fetch the metadata again after you've made changes?
Does LR allow you to break lines in its metadata entry?

There are only three types of line endings in the world of computing:

CR (old Mac standard)
LF (Unix and new Mac standard)
CR/LF (Windows standard)

If none of these work then perhaps LR is just removing them when it shows the fields for display.

Kirk,

I am pretty sure, as I prepare the files first and than import them into Lightroom. I did this with all three possible settings.
I also tried to reread metadata from within LR but that did not work either.

In order to do a carriage return in the metadata fields in LR, I have to press CTL+Enter. A known but so far ignored problem by Adobe.

In the Adobe forum I found a thread, that describes my problem. Really seems to be a bug in LR for Windows.

So my workaround will be to write the Caption without carriage returns. Does not look pretty but at least it works and still looks better than having CR ignored completely.

I just wanted to make sure, that I have my settings set properly in PM.

Thanks for your help.
Best regards
Michael
