It may be that you've allowed Photoshop to use too much of your RAM which would cause virtual memory paging to occur.  When you resume PM, all of its memory pages have to be loaded in from disk.

How much RAM do you have and how much have you allotted to Photoshop's memory cache?

Hi Kirk, Thank you for responding. My iMac has 4 gigs of RAM and PS uses 1800 , but even if I use a different application and after that, switching back to PM it takes a lot of time before PM is accesable.
On my Macbook Pro 15" i7    I have the same configuration (legal) also 4 gigs of RAM and there it works totally OK.

What kind of photos are you browsing?
How many photos are in the folder(s) you're browsing?
What sort method are you using in each of the folder(s) you're browsing?

Hi Kirk,
These are standard jpegs from a Canon EOS1D MK IV, I think there are about 630 pics to be edited. Could that be the problem?

Unlikely.  We regularly test with far more images than that with no speed issues.

I'll ask again.  What sort method are you using in each of the folder(s) you're browsing?

Hi Kirk,
I select the pics to be edited then press edit, PS opens up and after saving the edited pic i go back to PM and then the waiting starts.
This only occurs on my iMac, not on my macbook pro.

And can you please tell me what sort method you're using in the contact sheet?  It is listed in the toolbar of the contact sheet window.  It will say something like 'Filename', 'Capture Time', etc.

It is vital that you tell me this information!  Please.

Hi Kirk,
I used, filename and I've tried capture, but the difference was insignificant

OK, well Filename sorting is the fastest sort method.  The only other suggestion I can make is to run the Activity Monitor and sample PM when it is busy like this and send me the sample report.  Then I can see what PM is doing when it is being non-responsive.

Otherwise I suggest contacting our support folks who will troubleshoot the issue with you over the telephone which would likely come up with a solution much faster than on these forums.  Call them at 503-547-2888.

Hi Kirk,  I've done some thinking and found out that the problem wasn't P M. Somewhere else inside the O S or else. S I cleaned my iMac and did a clean install, all is WELL.
Thanks for your support. I really appreciated your help and from the sales crew , Katie Werremeyer is an awesome  representative. Thanks again, all of you!
