Color Management
« on: December 05, 2011, 06:09:48 AM »
When I open a NEF file in ACR, it show a totally different color cast as in PM, settings are Adobe RGB in PM, PS and ACR.
I guess it's cause PM shows the embedded JPG from Nikon. What profile is it, a Nikon sRGB? How can i get the same color?

ACR is rendering the NEF with its own RAW converter.  PM will never be able to render a RAW file the same way as ACR.  If you want PM to have as closely as similar as possible rendering you'll have to convert your NEF file to a DNG file and have the DNG converter put a high resolution preview in the DNG file.  PM will then use the rendered preview for display purposes and then the image will look about the same in PM and Adobe's apps.

On the other hand, you can manage to coast ACR to mimic Nikon's colours. Just select apropriate Nikon processing profile in ACR's Camera Calibration tab. With the same profile also selected in camera, you can get very similar colours in both, in apps that rely on Nikon's embedded jpeg preview and Adobe's processing. If these colours are to your liking that's a different matter. Generally, I liked Nikon's processing of skintones better than Adobe's. But that might have changed, since last Nikon I shot was D2X...:)

Yes, right, there are camera profiles in ACR. Old profiles from the D2X Mode 1,2 and 3. But I use camera standart. Pretty close to the original in PM.
