Auto-ingestion not working on new 64-bit PC
« on: March 09, 2012, 01:27:48 AM »
I've recently bought a new laptop computer that runs Windows 7 64-bit. I've installed PM 4.6.8, which works as usual except for when I put an SD card into the reader. Windows tells me, "This file does not have a program associated with it...".

I've been into the Default Programs section of Control Panel and confirmed that PM is the default setting for autoplay of pictures. That doesn't seem to have registered with Windows.

Ingestion works fine if I do it manually (i.e. Ctrl-g).

Any clues to the likely problem and its cure?

TIA,

Roger

Photo Mechanic does not have a 64-bit native AutoPlay handler.  It doesn't function on 64-bit windows systems.

There is no workaround at this time.

Actually there is a workaround for Windows 7 x64, been known for a long while, works fine for me on PM 4.6.8 & Windows 7 x64 (poor Kirk's gotta be burned out working on so much stuff)

http://www.camerabits.com/site/faq.html

Near the bottom:

Why doesn't Autoplay Ingest work properly on my Windows 7 64-bit machine?

Photo Mechanic's installer is built for 32-bit operating systems, so the Autoplay executable installs in the wrong directory, even though Photo Mechanic it self will run on a 64-bit operating system.

You can fix this by copying the "PMAutoplay.exe" from the /SysWOW64 folder to the /system32 folder. These folders are located in:
Computer/Local Disk (C:)/Windows/...

Note: A restart is required to complete this operation.
