Can't load xmp text file into IPTC pad on Mac

Hi all,
First time user here and really need help. Just got a new Macbook Pro and trying to load xmp text file into IPTC Stationary pad on PM. It won't allow me for some reason. I have the xmp file saved to a folder on desktop, but when i got to highlight to load it won't. Hope this makes sense...

Does the file end in .XMP ?

The file ends in .txt

The file ends in .txt

Rename it to end in .XMP and it should work.

 Now onto the next step of trying to FTP photos....
